Pensioners Facing Price Hike from Eir

It has been brought to my attention that elderly people having survived 5 years of attack from the government are now facing a price hike from communications company Eir.

People have received letters stating that –

.               The cost of the monthly charge for your voice plan will increase by €2

.               Your call set up fee will increase to 29c.

.               Other call rates have changed (we’ve listed these changes below)

The austerity parties took away the telephone allowance, cut the fuel allowance for older people and reduced the number of home help hours. Now, more than ever, older people have a need to use the phone or their panic button. The fear of running up a large phone bill whilst trying to survive on what little the government have left them with, is making them think twice about using it.

This is a disgraceful and unnecessary attack on older people. The incoming government needs to restore the phone allowance immediately on taking office. People Before Profit will be working to reverse all of the vicious cuts to the elderly. They deserve better from any government.
